Current Volunteer Opportunities.
Make sure to sign in, put on a volunteer tag (if not wearing orange shirt) and be prepared to work.
Duties may vary according to current needs.
You are expected to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled time. Please let us know 1 hour or before the day you are scheduled to work if there is an issue with the hours, unable to make it in for your scheduled time and can't find a replacement or will be running late. Possible Volunteer positions:
Food Rescue:
Driver picks up food rescue at the local grocery store and delivers to food shelf. You may opt for a regular weekly pick up and/or be on our call list to fill in.
Receiving:
Truck Delivery: 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month around 10:30am to 12 noon.
Volunteers unload, sort, and stock food shelves, refrigerators & freezers.
Tuesday evenings 5:00pm - 7:00pm & Thursday mornings 9:30am - 11:30am
Client Intake & Assistance - Sign in clients, hand out information on new programs and recipes, explain programs available to new clients, assist stocker & weigher as needed.
Shopper - Assist clients in selecting their food.
Stocker - Keep shelves stocked, assist with receiving, sorting, and stocking donations.
Weigher - weigh and calculate lbs of food going out.
Deliver - take the cart to the clients vehicle and put in.
“Bridge to Benefits” - Use a screening tool to help clients find other programs they may be eligible for. This position would be combined with Shopper or Stocker as available.
School BackPack Program - (October through May) Help fill the summer meal gap by helping to fill bags with products for school age children. Deliver to schools and hand out on Fridays or last day of the week.
Anytime Weekdays between 8:30am and 5pm.
Composting and Recycling - Help us do our part for the environment by sorting our compost and recycling. Hours are flexible. Work alone or bring a friend. Contact people to pickup compost.
May be asked to supervise small groups (optional).
SAFS Delivers - Select and deliver food once a month for a client who is home bound or give a ride to someone that lacks transportation.
